The occupation of Rhodes by the Italians (1912-1948) began the cycling tradition in Rhodes. The bicycle replaced the traditional donkey as a faster and more modern means of transport and also soon became a very popular sport on both the road and on a purpose built cycling track which was unique in Greece at the time. Since then, Rhodes has been the venue for many international cycling races. These historic battles were captured by the lens of the photographer Antonis Pachos, the Rhodian photographer.
Some of the bicycles of that time will be displayed in the Historica exhibition, which will take place from October 14th – 24th, 2024 at Nestoridion Melathron.
Please come to view and admire these unique exhibits and revive memories of a bygone age.
